Dietz Street Lofts is a mixed-use, mixed-income residential development designed to support artists and middle-income households in downtown Oneonta. It is a four-story development with 65 units divided up with 40 one-bedroom artist lofts and 24 two-bedroom units for middle income residents.There are seven mobility-impaired units, three hearing/visually impaired, and one reserved for the on-site superintendent. The ground floor hosts the Hartwick College Grain Innovation Centers, which is a regional hub for whole-grain milling and baking research.
The project was approved with a budget of $16M, which included $1.47M from the city’s Downtown Revitalization Initiative. It also received $180K from the Mohawk Valley Regional Economic Development Council Grant to support the Grain Lab on-site. Construction began in April of 2021 and the first residents moved in by July 2023. The building is complete with a rooftop terrace, three distinct common rooms (a community lounge with computers, a performance practice studio, and a shared artist studio), elevators, on-site management and superintendent, and on-site laundry.
